Lyme Disease Info Bill Passes NYS Senate

May 24, 2016

A bill on a Lyme disease information campaign from a New York state lawmaker from the Hudson Valley, has passed the Senate.

Republican Sue Serino of Hyde Park says her bill to create a public awareness program to combat Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases passed in the Senate Monday. Serino’s bill would require the state Department of Health to create a public prevention and awareness program that includes methods for effective prevention—the safe use of insect repellent, best practices for tick removal, methods for reducing exposure and what to do once the tick is removed. The bill, which is sponsored in the Assembly by Democrat Didi Barrett, passed the Senate last year as well, but died in the Assembly.
