Mass. Approves Waiver For Salem Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has announced the state has granted a waiver to allow the first medical marijuana dispensary to begin selling its product.Alternative Therapy Group of Salem requested the waiver because labs in Massachusetts are not yet able to complete all of the testing required by the Department of Public Health, according to the governor’s office. Under the three-month waiver, the group can dispense a maximum of 4.23 ounces for a 60-day supply to qualifying patients. Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders says the state hit the reset button on its troubled dispensary application process earlier this year.

“It’s a rolling basis,” Sudders said. “Any organization that meets certain criteria can apply to be licensed as a medical marijuana dispensary in the commonwealth now.”

The waiver requires the marijuana to be sold with a label stating it was not tested for all of 18 mandated pesticides.
