With just two weeks until the end of the fiscal year in Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick said Monday he believes there will be a new state budget on time.
A conference committee of House and Senate members is working to reconcile the differences in the spending plans approved by the two chambers. Governor Patrick doesn’t see any major sticking points.
" There are not that many big differences from by perspective. I am generally happy with what I have seen because both the House and Senate budget track the priorities set forth in my own budget."
Representatives and Senators both rejected Governor Patrick’s proposal to increase taxes on candy and soda to fund more pre-school classroom spaces. The Senate budget would add more types of beverages to the state’s bottle deposit law. The House has blocked a bottle bill expansion for years.
