Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Energy Payment

Entergy/NRC

The Vermont Clean Energy Development Board has scheduled a public meeting on a $5.3 million payment to the state by the owner of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant for clean energy development.

Governor Peter Shumlin's office announced the payment and plant owner Entergy also deposited $10 million as its first payment in the Vermont Yankee Site Restoration Fund.

The payments were part of a settlement agreement and memorandum of understanding between Entergy and the state signed in December.

At least half of the funds for clean energy development must be spent on activities in or for the benefit of Windham County.

Chris Campany of the Windham Regional Commission is advocating a careful, planned approach to spending it.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Brattleboro Union High School.
