NEW YORK – Metro-North Railroad will resume most of its regular Hudson Line service in time for this morning’s commuter rush following last weekend’s fatal train derailment in which four people died.
In a pre-dawn Tweet, the railroad said "98% of regular Hudson Line service returns"
Because of limited track capacity for a one-mile segment, six morning peak trains will be combined into three, and all customers should expect possible Hudson Line delays of 10 to 15 minutes.
Crews have been rebuilding about 800 feet of track that were damaged in the Bronx. The railroad cleared debris, began rebuilding tracks and restored one of the three tracks in the area that was not significantly damaged in the accident. Personnel worked all night Monday to remove debris and ballast and began laying new ties. All rail cars were cleared from the tracks by 6 p.m. on Monday.
About 900 gallons of diesel fuel was siphoned from the locomotive before it was removed from the scene.
Work will continue until full service is restored.
