The first parish visit by newly installed Springfield Roman Catholic Bishop Mitchell Rozanski will be to the Berkshires.

The Springfield Diocese announced Monday that Bishop Rozanski will make his first official pastoral visit to St Joseph Church in Pittsfield on Sunday Aug. 31st. The 11:30 mass will be followed by a public reception in the parish center.   Rozanski, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was installed last week as the ninth bishop of Springfield.  He said he looked forward to visiting the churches, schools and other institutions throughout the diocese.

" I don't want to spend too much time behind a desk. I want to see where ministry really is at work."

A spokesman for the diocese said they are encouraging a large turnout for the new bishops first Berkshire visit.
