Albany, NY – A new tax on cigarettes went into effect in New York State this week. Smokers in the state now pay the highest tax on cigarettes in the country. The latest increase of $1.25 means smokers are paying a total of $2.75 a pack just in taxes. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.
