Newburgh City Manager Subpoenaed To Grand Jury

Doug Kerr

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has apparently launched an investigation into government dealings in the City of Newburgh.

City Manager Michael Ciaravino has been subpoenaed to present a number of documents for grand jury review.

The subpoena, a copy of which was obtained by MidHudsonNews.com, calls for: “All original documents, including all correspondence, e-mails, memoranda, and/or notes pertaining to disability claims, disability hearings, and disciplinary actions, potential disciplinary actions or hearings, regarding (a city police officer), including all such documents, generated, possessed or received from any Elected or Appointed City Officials, including the City Comptroller, Civil Service Commissioner, Corporation Counsel or attorneys working for the city... for the period of June 1, 2014, to the present.”

The subpoena said the information compiled by the city manager should not include “any compelling statement or information obtained from (the officer)."

If the city manager presents all of the requested documents to the foreperson of the grand jury, he need not personally appear, the subpoena said.

The officer has been out of work on a disability, but reasons for the investigation are unknown at this time.
