North Adams kicked off its fourth annual Mayor’s Fitness Challenge on Friday, with hopes of reaching a common goal for health and wellness in the city.
Mayor Richard Alcombright says the city, alongside Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, will be competing for points by eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water, and being active in the community.
“We started this about four years ago, and really what it is it’s just a way for the community to come together --there's a little bit competitive thing going on with it at times,” Alcombright says. “But it’s really a time for people to kind of take inventory of their own health.”
Neighbors from the south have joined the wellness movement, too — with Mayor Linda Tyer kicking off Pittsfield’s fitness challenge Saturday.
