NY To Limit Noise During TZ Bridge Building
The state plans innovative measures to protect fish and people during the construction of a big new bridge in the New York suburbs. More from WAMC's Dave Lucas A new report on the environmental impact of the Tappan Zee Bridge says residents will be able to go online to check noise and air quality monitors. It says excessive noise has to be stopped an hour after it's reported. The report says pile driving will generally be prohibited between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. It says an underwater "curtain" of bubbles will be used to minimize the acoustic effect of pile driving on fish. Dredging will be limited to avoid peak migration and spawning. The bridge is to replace the aging, overused span that now crosses the Hudson River between Westchester and Rockland counties.
