Orange County officials work out compromise for school safety funding
GOSHEN – Orange County administration and the county legislature have reached a compromise to provide $1.2 million over a three year period to enhance school safety procedures in the wake of the Newtown, CT tragedy.
Legislator Daniel Castricone negotiated was the administration of County Executive Edward Diana and Castricone is satisfied with the agreement.
“The original plan was changed dramatically from the board as first put forward having the ability, the way I understood it, to change to give the legislature final say on distributing the money and giving much more accountability than having a non-elected board distributing the funds,” Castricone said.
Castricone believes the full legislature will approve the compromise agreement providing the money to the school districts.
