Vermont's secretary of state says there's a "dawning of a new landscape" in Vermont's politics as outside groups spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to influence voters leading up to Tuesday's primary.
Documents filed Wednesday show California billionaire Reid Hoffman, who co-founded of the professional-networking site LinkedIn, is spending $220,000 on advertisements in support of former state Representative and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Dunne.

The super PAC, Vermonters for Strong Leadership, plans to buy advertisements totaling somewhere below $200,000 in support of former state Representative and fellow Democratic gubernatorial candidate Sue Minter.

The Virginia-based American Future Fund Political Action Committee says it's spending $27,000 on advertisements in the Republican race.

Secretary of State Jim Condos told Vermont Public Radio the large independent expenditures are extraordinary for a primary.
