Report Shows 1 in 5 Vermonters Living In "Fuel Poverty"

A new report shows that one in five Vermonters are living in "fuel poverty" — meaning they are having to spend more than 10 percent of their household income on energy costs.

The report was done by the Institute for Energy and the Environment at the Vermont Law School.

It recommends that the state increase funding for weatherization of low-income Vermonters' homes and keep supplementing federal programs including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program known as LIHEAP.

The report was released Thursday at the State House.
