Travelers in the Capital Region have a new option. New York U.S. Senator Charles Schumer unveiled Monday that JetBlue airlines is beginning flights out of Albany December 10th

Initial flight destinations will include Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida competing directly with the area’s Southwest, Delta, and United Airlines routes. The Democrat says he has been lobbying for JetBlue, a low-cost airline, to come to Albany for 15 years.

"JetBlue has a great record of providing low costs flights and great service, if you've see the surveys, people are more satisfied with JetBlue than any other, and I gotta tell you when I flight JetBlue I can tell the employees are happy employees,” Schumer said.

Schumer has also secured the airline’s presence in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. The airline briefly offered $34 roundtrips from Albany to mark the occasion.
