Senator Charles Schumer discusses veterans' jobs bill in Plattsburgh

New York Senator Charles Schumer was in the North Country Monday to push for passage of a bill he has introduced to enhance job opportunities for returning veterans.

Schumer, a Democrat, has introduced the Border Jobs for Veterans Act to end delays in Customs and Border Protection hiring and add 2000 personnel targeting the northern border.

He toured the terminal at the Plattsburgh International Airport, which is undergoing a $55 million renovation that includes a new international arrivals facility.

Schumer says the legislation would speed up hiring and require the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to recruit veterans.  “Who better to protect our border than highly trained outgoing military service members.”

The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona.
