A search is expected to begin in January for a new president at a state university in western Massachusetts following the resignation of its former president amid controversy
The formal search for the next Westfield State University president will begin after classes resume. Evan Dobelle abruptly retired from the president’s office seven weeks ago. His departure ended a leadership crisis at the school brought about by investigations into Dobelle lavish spending on travel and entertainment. Massachusetts Higher Education Commissioner Richard Freeland feared damage was done to the reputation of the state’s public college system
Dobelle sued Freeland, and several Westfield State trustees alleging defamation. The defendants have asked a federal judge to dismiss the suit
