Shumlin: Vermont Health Connect Exchange Improving

Governor Peter Shumlin says the Vermont Health Connect health insurance marketplace's performance is improving, and there's no need now to talk about contingency plans in case it isn't fully functional by year's end.

Shumlin told a news conference on Thursday that while some people may still be experiencing slowness or glitches on the system's website, it's working for a growing number of Vermonters.

He and Mark Larson, commissioner of the Department of Vermont Health Access, say the number of Vermonters fully enrolled in health insurance through the exchange has grown by 75 percent in the past week, to more than 1,400.

Shumlin is rebuffing Republican calls to delay a mandate for participation in the exchange.

The exchange is expected to eventually enroll about 100,000 Vermonters.
