The owner of the Class-A minor league Lowell Spinners baseball team in Massachusetts says he plans to sell after 19 years. Drew Weber tells the Lowell Sun it's harder to run the team as he divides his time between homes in Lowell and New York. The 70-year-old says he wants to spend more time with his three grandchildren. A sale wouldn't immediately affect the Spinners' affiliation with the Boston Red Sox.
NFL:
A Maine man who has hired a plane to fly banners protesting the NFL's four-game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady again took to the air to gloat over a judge's reversal of that suspension. The Portland Press Herald reports Richard Pate's latest message taunts NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell with the message: "Roger G. Feelin a Little Deflated?" It was flown over Scarborough area beaches on Saturday.
Meanwhile New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady just wants to move on. Making his first public comments since the "Deflategate" court ruling, Brady says he's focused on preparing for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh. He's also recognizing his family, friends and Patriots owner Bob Kraft for their support.
NFL – Add:
-Giants:
The New York Giants have added two players to their defense. The team claimed cornerback Asa Jackson and defensive lineman Louis Nix off waivers on Sunday. To make room on their roster, they cut defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis and cornerback Mike Harris.
Nix was cut Saturday by the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the third round last year. But he was inactive for the first three weeks and was then placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
Jackson was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2012 draft. He has played in 14 regular-season games with six starts, recording 29 tackles and three passes defensed. Ellis, a former New York Jet, had signed with the Giants as a free agent in March. Harris came over from the Detroit Lions' practice squad on Oct. 29.
-Jets:
The New York Jets have claimed safety Ronald Martin off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks and released safety Rontez Miles. The Jets announced the moves Sunday, a day after teams had to pare their rosters to the mandatory 53-player limit.
Martin signed with the Seahawks this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of LSU. He had five interceptions and four forced fumbles in his last three seasons with the Tigers. Martin had 11 tackles and two pass defensed with the Seahawks this summer.
Miles, a fan favorite, had team-leading 23 tackles in the preseason. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown in the second preseason game against Atlanta. Miles spent most of the past two seasons on the Jets' practice squad.
-Bills:
The Buffalo Bills have claimed center Gabe Ikard off waivers, two days after he was released by the Tennessee Titans. Ikard signed with Tennessee last year, but missed his entire rookie season because of a knee injury. He provides depth to an offensive line that was down to seven players.
His addition leaves the Bills with a 52-player roster — one short of the NFL maximum — in preparing for their season opener against Indianapolis on Sept. 13.
The Bills began filling out their practice squad by signing safety Jonathan Meeks, receiver Dezmin Lewis, running back Cierre Wood, linebacker Kevin Reddick and guard Cyril Richardson. All five rejoin Buffalo after being released over the past two days. Receiver Austin Willis was waived from the reserve-injured list.
Horse Racing:
Cavorting raced to a three-length victory over Bar of Gold on Sunday in the Grade 2 $300,000 Prioress Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course.

Cavorting is 3-0 at Saratoga, also winning the Adirondack last summer and the Test on Aug. 8.
Bar of Gold returned $6.80 and $4.90, and Fusaichi Red paid $7.40 to show.
Bowling:
Liz Johnson won the U.S. Women's Open bowling title for the second straight year and fourth time overall Sunday, beating Shannon O'Keefe 190-189 in the final.
The 41-year-old Johnson, from Cheektowaga, New York, became the first player to successfully defend the title since Dorothy Fothergill in 1969, and the first to sweep the event and the USBC Queens since Kelly Kulick in 2010. Also the 1996 and 2007 winner, Johnson broke a tie for second on the event victory list behind eight-time champion Marion Ladewig.
Johnson earned $50,000. O'Keefe, from O'Fallon, Illinois, made $25,000. Johnson beat Jazreel Tan of Singapore 199-177 in the semifinal.
WNBA:
In the WNBA playoffs, New York beat Minnesota 75-71, Atlanta topped Washington 73-67, Los Angeles won against Tulsa 92-73, and Chicago bested Seattle 93-65.
