State Senator Decides Not To Run For Congress

Senator Betty Little
NYS Senate

A high profile Republican in the 21st Congressional District says she will not run for the seat being vacated by Democrat Bill Owens.

When Democrat Bill Owens announced last week that he would not see re-election a number of Democratic and Republican names surfaced as potential candidates in the 16,000 square mile district.

Among them was state Senator Betty Little. But in an email Monday afternoon, Little said she has “decided not to seek the Republican nomination for the open Congressional seat and will run for reelection to the New York State Senate as ... planned.  The past few years have been very productive and I'm hopeful for another strong legislative session this year.”

There are three candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the Congressional district.

No Democrats have yet formally announced a candidacy.
