The state’s highest court ruled Friday that a lawsuit can proceed against the Massachusetts Gaming Commission over the awarding of one of the state’s casino licenses.

The lawsuit alleges gaming commissioners held at least two illegal private meetings to discuss rival plans for the coveted Greater Boston casino license before voting in an open meeting in 2014 to award the license.

The suit was brought by a citizens group that supported a plan by Mohegan Sun to build a casino at the Suffolk Downs racetrack,

In a statement, the commission defended the licensing process as “comprehensive, fair and highly transparent.”

Wynn is in the process of building a $2.4 billion resort casino just north of Boston.

The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
