Swanton Officials Vote To Spend $10k To Oppose Wind Project

The Swanton Select Board has authorized spending $10,000 to "vigorously oppose" the Swanton Wind Project.
Developers seeking to build up to seven turbines in the northwest Vermont town applied for a Certificate of Public Good from the Public Service Board last month.

The St. Albans Messenger reports the select board's Oct. 4 executive session focused on the town's legal ability to fight the controversial project.

An attorney representing the project says he "recognizes town officials are entitled to participate in the PSB hearing process."

The board is asking citizens for donations to block the project, which developers say would produce electricity for about 7,300 households and provide estimated annual payments of $150,000 to the town.

The PSB's pre-hearing conference on the project is scheduled for Oct. 20.
