Town Supports Mall's Push For Tree Thinning

Officials in a Vermont town have thrown their support behind a shopping center that wants trees cut down on a strip of state-owned land to increase the visibility of the mall from a nearby roadway.
The Select Board in Berlin voted to sign on to a letter urging state officials to partially clear the land along Route 62.

The Times Argus reports that the Berlin Mall says the trees are an impediment to further development. They say they are in discussions to bring a new restaurant to the center, but the restaurant owners want to be sure drivers can see the building from the road.

State officials would have to approve the proposal.
