Trash Clean Up Event Is Set

People in several cities will take part this weekend in the nation’s largest community improvement project.

The Keep America Beautiful organization promotes the Great American Clean-up on weekends in April to encourage people to pick up trash, and remove small debris from parks, school yards and other public ways.  Melvin Edwards of Keep Springfield Beautiful says more than one million tons of trash has been collected over the last six years.

Volunteers can go to one of four locations to pick up free bags, gloves and bottled water.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
