BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is urging House Republican leaders to allow a vote on a sweeping immigration bill passed overwhelmingly in the Senate earlier this year.

The Massachusetts Democrat said the bill would likely pass in the House, with the support of Democrats and some Republicans, and be signed by President Barack Obama.

But many Republicans in the House reject the Senate plan to provide a path to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants living here illegally and tighten border security.

Instead some Republicans are pushing for a more piecemeal approach.

Warren said that would be a mistake. She said current immigration policy is bad both for those in the country illegally and also for the nation's economy.

Warren made the comments following a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Monday.
