Vermont’s Governor has recorded a public service announcement to promote his plan to grant pardons to people convicted of possessing small amounts of marijuana.
Earlier this month Vermont’s out-going governor said he will consider granting pardons those convicted of possessing up to one ounce of marijuana before the Legislature decriminalized possession in 2013.
Governor Shumlin is now actively advertising the effort. "There are thousands of Vermonters who got charged with an ounce or less long before I fixed the law. If you’re interested in a pardon because this is holding up your ability to get a job or other challenges go to governor.vermont.gov and we will consider for non-violent offenders your pardon.”
As of Wednesday morning the Governor’s office had received about 330 applications for pardons.
