Vermont Lawmaker Sues To Get Health Finance Plan

WAMC/Pat Bradley

A Vermont lawmaker is suing the Shumlin administration to get information about how the governor plans to pay for the universal health care system his administration plans to launch by 2017.

A 2011 law said the financing plan would be public by January of 2013, but it still has not been released. Shumlin said recently it is still under development, and won't be released until it's ready.

Democratic Representative Cynthia Browning of Arlington has been pressing for release of information as the financing plan is developed.

A court complaint written by Browning's lawyer — former Deputy Secretary of State Paul Gillies, says the records are automatically public because the administration missed the deadline set in the 2011 law.
