Vermont Official Warns Snowplow Driver Shortage Could Loom

wikipedia.org

A senior official with Vermont's Transportation Agency says he's nervous about whether the state will have enough snowplow drivers this winter.
The agency this week announced a new recruiting campaign for plow drivers, after a wave of retirements prompted in part by a buyout program offered to state employees.

Scott Rogers, maintenance and operations chief for the agency, says his division of 570 employees usually has about 20 openings; it currently has about 40.

The agency is offering sign-on bonuses for new maintenance workers, who drive plows and handle other tasks. Rogers says he's also reaching out to other divisions in the agency to see who has the training and willingness to pick up some shifts driving snowplows.
