Vermont's Public Safety commissioner and Homeland Security director have recently returned from a visit to Macedonia, where they exchanged ideas and practices with public safety officials there.
The trip was made at the request of the Vermont National Guard State Partnership Program and financed by the Guard.
Emergency officials from Macedonia have visited Vermont and the state Emergency Operations Center on multiple occasions to learn how state practices here could benefit them.
Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said the Macedonian Crisis Management Center is similar to the Vermont Emergency Operations Center. Flynn and Homeland Security Director Joe Flynn also learned how the crisis center structure is integrated across the whole of government and how procedures and methods may be applied in Vermont.
