Senate lawmakers in Vermont have passed a house bill that would create criminal penalties for "revenge porn" — the sharing of explicit images of a person without consent.
The bill says that a person who shares an explicit image without permission can face a penalty of up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Sharing these images with the intent of causing damage is punishable by two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
The Rutland Herald reports the bill was passed by a voice vote Thursday and is expected to go to a conference committee and then to the governor for his signature. If signed into law, Vermont will join 13 other states that have passed laws against "revenge porn".
