Vermont state officials have issued new energy planning standards that invite regional and town planners to say whether they're willing to welcome large-scale wind energy projects. But 'No' is not an acceptable answer.Act 174, passed this year, called for regions and municipalities to take a deep dive into energy planning. The goal is to get their views considered seriously by the Public Service Board when siting wind, solar and other renewable energy projects.

Deputy Public Service Commissioner Jon Copans says regional commissions are getting into energy planning now. He adds that now is the time for town planners and other Vermonters to engage in the process.
