Vox Pop : Open Forum on 4/15/14 : Hate Crime
A Federal grand jury is expected to consider the fatal shooting of three people outside Jewish community facilities in Kansas this past weekend as a hate crime. The victims were not Jewish, but the shooter, 73-year-old Frazier Glenn Miller, is a known anti-Semite and white supremacist.
What is a hate crime? Why do they happen? And how can we, as bystanders, deal with them? We have Dr. Jennifer Michaels of the Brien Center for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in Pittsfield, Massachusetts here with us today to shed some light on the psychology behind hate crimes.
