The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles says a school bus driver is facing a charge of negligent operation accusing him of drinking alcoholic beverages while transporting school children.

Fifty-nine-year-old Kent Quilia of Hartford has been cited to appear in court on Nov. 5.

Officials say Quilia had been drinking while driving students from Hartford to Bethel on Sept. 20. The DMV says after Quilia had finished his afternoon school bus run, he picked up the South Royalton High School soccer team and drove them to Randolph. Officials with Butler Bus Service received a report that one of its drivers had been driving erratically.

Officials say the company made arrangements for another driver to transport the soccer team back to Bethel.

Quilia did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
