VT Town Rejects Anti-Wind Vote At Town Meeting

Green Mountain Power

Lowell voters are standing behind their support for a 21-turbine industrial wind power project making electricity on a ridge above the northern Vermont community.

In a Town Meeting Day vote Tuesday, 27 voters supported an article opposing Green Mountain Power's Kingdom Community Wind project while 110 voted against the article.

Resident Arlon Warner says he's all for renewable resources.

In 2010, before the project was built, 75 percent of Lowell residents voted in favor of the project, but a ruling by the Vermont Supreme Court is forcing the community to reconsider an anti-wind resolution it says was improperly passed over during the community's 2012 Town Meeting.

Resident Ed Wesolow, who took the issue to the Supreme Court, said before the vote that reconsidering the issue again was a win for democracy.
