The town of Waterbury, Vermont is celebrating another milestone in its years-long recovery from flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene.
More than four years after the 2011 storm forced the Vermont town to abandon its town office building, officials on Friday marked the opening of new town offices.
The new $5 million facility is located adjacent to what had been the town library and is out of the flood plain.
The new complex includes the town offices, the historical society and the library.
Speaking at a ceremony, U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy said the story of the Waterbury town offices, like the state, is one of perseverance with people and communities rebuilding "smarter and better than before."
