The Vermont attorney general's office says pharmaceutical manufacturer Wyeth, Inc., has paid Vermont more than $6 million to resolve allegations that it underpaid drug rebates to the Vermont Medicaid program.
The payment is part of a $784 million multi-state and federal settlement.
The attorney general's office said Wednesday that the settlement mainly reimburses the Medicaid program for overpayment to Wyeth and also included nearly $900,000 in civil penalties and additional recoveries.
Wyeth was accused of knowingly underpaying drug rebates it was required to pay to state Medicaid programs between 2001 and 2006 for the sale of particular products used to treat symptoms of acid reflux.
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer acquired Wyeth in 2009. Pfizer says the final agreement does not include an admission of liability by Wyeth.
