The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Springfield Police maintain a 24-hour vigil Tuesday June 4,2013 at the memorial to fallen officers in front of the police headquarters. It is the one-year anniversary of the death of patrolman Kevin Ambrose

One year has passed since veteran police officer Kevin Ambrose was shot and killed in Springfield Massachusetts.  It had been more than 25 years since a Springfield police officer had died in the line of duty.  Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet  is asking people everywhere today to show support for police by putting on a blue light or placing a blue ribbon on a tree or a pole.   WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with the aide to the commissioner,  Police Sergeant John Delaney

Cuomo Pushes For Women's Equality Act

Andrew Cuomo's office kicked-started the day by spreading word that the Governor had published an op-ed in The Huffington Post titled "Restoring New York as a Leader in Women's Rights.” The timing seems right: women's groups are rallying this noonhour at the State Capitol in Albany, on the heels of Cuomo's mid-morning press event the 10-point "Women's Equality Act" which includes strengthening abortion rights in New York.

Good Government Group Questions Entergy's Lobbying Efforts

To this end, the group is urging a state commission on ethics to investigate. Meanwhile, an Indian Point spokesman says the plant’s parent is operating within the law.
