WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Report: Good Grades For APD Chief

The Center for Law and Justice in Albany has released its "report card" on Police Chief Steven Krokoff's performance over the past three years as head of the Albany Police

"Pathway to Change: African Americans and Community Policing in Action" examines African-American perception of how police interact with people. It focuses on the progress Albany Police Chief Steven Krokoff has made when it comes to repairing what the report calls "decades of racial tensions" neighborhoods experienced under several of his predecessors via community policing.

Saratoga Springs Public Safety Officials Defend Police Against Accusations Of Brutality

Officials in Saratoga Springs are defending their actions after a man was critically injured following a police chase early Saturday morning. Now, the Spa City is facing protests and claims of police brutality.

According to police reports, at 3:02 Saturday morning, police in Saratoga Springs responded to reported disturbance on Caroline Street, a sometimes rowdy area known for several busy bars that remain open in the early morning hours.

County Legislator Raises Concerns About Water Issue In Rockland

A Rockland County legislator says he is concerned that United Water New York waited too long to notify customers about a water quality problem over the summer. United Water says the water was safe, and its notification process within the law.

In July, drinking water in Rockland County turned cloudy. In other words, the water was turbid.

Congressman Receives Business Award

On Wednesday, New York Congressman Chris Gibson was at The Business Council of New York State office in Albany, where he received the Spirit of Enterprise Award recognizing his pro-business, voting record as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ron Eidshaug,  vice president of Congressional and Public Affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, presented the award.

Gibson said he appreciates the support of the Chamber and the Business Council... The Kinderhook-based Republican elected in 2010 explained his No. 1 priority is growing the economy.
