WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Owners Of Local Food Truck File Lawsuit Against NYRA, New York State Officials

The owners of a Capital Region food truck are suing New York state officials after they were prevented from vending at the Empire State Plaza and Saratoga Race Course. The spat has set off a First Amendment debate. 

The owners of the Schenectady-based “Wandering Dago” food truck, which sells Italian foods, have filed a lawsuit against the New York State Racing Association, the state Office of General Services, and other state officials after they were prevented from operating at Saratoga Race Course earlier this summer, kicked out after opening day.

Entergy Officials Say Indian Point Is Unaffected By Vermont Yankee Closure

Following word that Entergy will shut down its Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant, Entergy officials say the Indian Point nuclear plant in New York is unaffected by the closure. Indian Point opponents disagree.

Entergy announced Tuesday that it will shut down Vermont Yankee, taking it offline by the end of next year. Entergy Wholesale Commodities President Bill Mohl said the plant could neither compete against natural gas prices nor continue to bear the impacts of regulations and costs. Mohl says the decision to close Vermont Yankee, or VY, is an individual one.
