WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

When Igor Stravinsky’s work “The Rite of Spring” made its debut in Paris on May 29, 1913, it was called by some one of the most scandalous events in music history. So much so that the theater erupted in a riot. Fast forward 100 years to this coming Wednesday, 100 years to the day since that debut, when the work will be performed in a new arraignment by The Five Browns at the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College.

Cuomo's Tax Free Zones Draw Mixed Reviews

Local Activists To Join Global Protest Against Biotech Giant

Protest marches are scheduled to take place on Saturday in close to 50 countries and more than 200 locations here in the United States.  Called “ March Against Monsanto”, the events will highlight what organizers see as a threat to the world’s food chain. Monsanto is a leading producer of genetically modified plant organisms, or GMOs.   WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with a local organizer of tomorrow’s march, Michaelann Bewsee, director of Arise For Social Justice in Springfield Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Gabriel Gomez made campaign stops in the Berkshires yesterday where he stressed a bipartisan message. And according to local GOP officials, he’ll have to continue to work hard to win more support in a solidly Democratic part of the state.
