The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Holyoke Mayor Prepares To Seek Second Term

Alex Morse, who at the age of 22, was the youngest mayor in the history of Holyoke Massachusetts when he was elected in 2011 is seeking a second two-year term.  It appears he will face at least five challengers.  WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Morse about the young mayor’s first term.

Bob Goepfert - “Anything Goes” at Proctors Theatre

It is hard to think of any musical with a better score than “Anything Goes.” It’s just as difficult to think of a cast who might perform those numbers better than those in the national tour playing at Proctors through Sunday.

This revival, which originated at Roundabout Theatre in New York City, is a happy musical that entertains and delights with great Cole Porter masterpieces. It opens with “I Get a Kick Out Of You” and follows with classics like “Easy to Love,” “Friendship,” “It’s De-Lovely” and “All Through the Night.”

Layoffs Hit Western Massachusetts Hospital

A hospital in Western Massachusetts is making employee layoffs as other health care providers in the region are trying to find solutions to challenges in recruiting and retaining physicians.

The Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield this week informed the Massachusetts Nurses Association union that the hospital will cut up to 9 positions among its medical-surgical nursing staff. It will also redesign up to 4 other various positions to accommodate the changes in personnel.

Voters In Berkshire Town Defeat Amendments To Wind Turbine Bylaw

Voters in a small Berkshire County community earlier this week voted against a proposal that many some are arguing would open the town up for more wind energy development. The move comes at a time when more small Western Massachusetts towns are planning for their futures with wind energy in mind.

At a special town meeting Monday evening in the small Berkshire County town of Peru, voters rejected a proposed bylaw amendment that would have raised the noise threshold for wind turbines operating in the town.
