WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Tornado Recovery Group's Mission Ends

The long term recovery group formed following the June 1st 2011 tornado in Springfield Massachusetts disbanded earlier this week. The group called Springfield Community Together consisted of volunteers from roughly a dozen philanthropic, faith based, and other non-profit organizations.  One of the board members of the long term recovery group was Steven Abdow, who is business manager for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts.  He spoke with WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill

Chartock: Senate Race In Mass To Be Close

This week saw the end of the Massachusetts special Senate election primaries, with Congressman Ed Markey claiming the Democratic nod to face Republican Gabriel Gomez, who won a three-way race. The two will face off at the ballot box on June 25 and have wasted no time trading criticism. Political observer Dr. Alan Chartock says polling, which showed Markey ahead just 44 to 40 in the early going, predicts a close race.

The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission is talking to private businesses, municipalities, non-profits, agencies, and others to collect data in order to update its Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Priority Project List.

Hospital Union Holds Informational Picket

Members of the New York State Nurses Association at the largest hospital in Plattsburgh took their concerns over staffing and wages to the streets Thursday.  Union members held an informational picket over stalled contract negotiations with the CVPH Medical Center.
