The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Schumer Wants Answers About CH Energy/Fortis Deal

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was in the Hudson Valley Friday. New York’s senior Senator says without answers to questions he has raised for some time, he cannot support a proposed utility merger in the Hudson Valley. As he was voicing his concerns, a pair of administrative law judges released a recommended decision about the merger.

The proposed merger is between Canadian energy company Fortis and Poughkeepsie-based CH Energy Group, parent of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation. And the Democratic Schumer says he has serious concerns.

Tornado Recovery Group's Mission Ends

The long term recovery group formed following the June 1st 2011 tornado in Springfield Massachusetts disbanded earlier this week. The group called Springfield Community Together consisted of volunteers from roughly a dozen philanthropic, faith based, and other non-profit organizations.  One of the board members of the long term recovery group was Steven Abdow, who is business manager for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts.  He spoke with WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill
