Paul Elisha: The Odor Of The Foregoing

Those who would pillory our current President with biased blame for every current ill, to which their own calculated intransigence has contributed, are at odds with political history.  Before they finagle with falsehood and fabricate pure political fiction, to capture unworthy vindication by voters, they should consult the 1978 edition of a tiny text, this commentator still finds invaluable.  It’s titled “American History At A Glance.”  This is a brief quote from Chapter 14, titled: “The Harding Administration.”

NYS Public Campaign Financing Effort Limited To Comptroller

Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York lawmakers are being criticized by good-government advocates for a budget agreement that tests public campaign financing only with the state comptroller’s race, and only for one year.

"The comptroller-only plan that was passed late last night is really very flawed."  Common Cause New York Executive Director Susan Lerner says it's back to business as usual with the governor's blessing.

The $140 billion spending plan signed Tuesday morning includes testing public campaign finance in the state comptroller race this year.

Rob Edelman: Jared Leto, Pre-Oscar

Jared Leto was, for sure, the hands-down pick to win the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his memorable presence in DALLAS BUYERS CLUB. But what is intriguing is the state of his screen career prior to DALLAS BUYERS CLUB. Before copping his Oscar, Leto had not made a film in five years and, furthermore, his previous effort was no small affair. It was an ambitious mega-budgeted sci-fi fantasy that, thematically-speaking, is reminiscent of such films as THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and CLOUD ATLAS. Its title is MR. NOBODY and its director is Jaco Van Dormael, the esteemed Belgian filmmaker.
