The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. NY Governor's Ratings Slip In Siena Poll

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo towers over Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino in the latest Siena Poll.

His popularity is slipping, ever so slightly: Siena pollster Steve Greenberg says eight months away from election day is still too early to gauge how Governor Andrew Cuomo will fare come November.  A plurality of voters, 47-43 percent, say a Republican can beat Cuomo in this election.   "A poll is a snapshot in time. At this point in time, Andrew Cuomo remains popular with voters and has a huge lead over Rob Astorino."

Albany Diocese Raises $310,000 For Typhoon Relief In Philippines

On Thursday, St. Pius School in Loudonville was the backdrop for a thank-you ceremony at a student assembly for all the work and support that came from the Capital Region for recovery efforts after Typhoon Haiyan. 

The deadly November 2013 storm, also known as Typhoon Yolanda, devastated some coastal areas of the Philippines.  Catholic Relief Services CEO Dr. Carolyn Woo discussed her recent trip to the Island Nation where she surveyed the damage and where Catholic Relief Services has been helping typhoon victims for over a year.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued its 2014 national spring flood risk report.  The weather service is predicting an increased threat of spring flooding in Vermont and northern New York due to continued cold temperatures that have kept the deep snow from melting.
