The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Johnstown Mayor Wants More Public Transportation

The Mayor of Johnstown, New York is exploring the possibility of expanding public transportation in the Fulton County region. 

Johnstown Mayor Michael Julius said he has expressed his interest in expanding public transportation through the city with Gloversville Mayor Dalton King.

“I’m just having preliminary discussions, just casual talking with the mayor, just to find out what it would cost us to reinitiate the bus service, and that’s the extent of it at this point,” said Julius.

NYS Senator Rolls Out Affordable Energy Plan

A New York state Senator from the Hudson Valley has unveiled an energy plan he hopes will ease financial burdens and move the state forward. 

State Senator Terry Gipson has an affordable energy plan he says would bring relief from taxes and rate hikes to families and businesses.

“I just can’t sit by any longer and watch hardworking families and business owners suffer under these regressive energy taxes,” says Gipson.

The Democrat from Rhinebeck says his plan has five points.

Healthcare Centers Expanding In Saratoga County

Saratoga County, home to one of the fastest growing populations in New York, is also seeing an expansion of healthcare services.

According to the most recent U.S. Census, between the year 2000 and 2010, the Saratoga County population rose 9.5 percent, from 200,635 to 219,607, outpacing many of New York’s largest cities and population centers.

With that growth has also come an increased demand for healthcare services.

In late February, Saratoga Hospital cut the ribbon at its new Milton Health Center, located on Geyser Road in Ballston Spa.

While I was on the phone with a colleague from Denver last week, our conversation turned inevitably to the topic of marijuana. Colorado legalized recreational use of drug via popular referendum in 2012, creating the world's first fully regulated recreational marijuana market. The first commercial sales occurred this past January, with $15 million in sales reported in the first month alone.
