The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

More Fracking Pro And Con - The Battle Rages On

The future of hydraulic fracturing has been in limbo since the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation began a review of the practice in 2008. Now, six public hearings are being held across New York to receive public comment on the draft State Energy Plan... one of them in Albany today.  Environmental groups are also at the Capitol today calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to put renewable energy ahead of fossil fuels in his effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.

Return Of Police Commission Considered

Sprringfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet is planning to retire later this year. Some city councilors see it as an opportunity to return control of the police department back to a civilian body

The mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts and the city council appear to be on a collision course over control of the police department. Councilors are looking into putting a civilian board in charge of the police, while the mayor wants the department run by a law enforcement professional.

Montgomery County Lawmakers Advance Casino Measure

Montgomery County officials are voicing their support for casino development, as New York gears up to hear proposals.

On Tuesday evening, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors’ Economic Development and Planning Committee unanimously voted to move a measure in favor of casino development to the full board.

District 7 legislator Barbara Wheeler sponsored the measure.
