The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Immigrant advocates in New York have responded to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address by announcing their own agenda for 2014.

Governor Cuomo’s 2014 State of the State address included proposals to lower taxes on businesses and homeowners, build infrastructure, promote tourism, and train new workers. But a lack of emphasis on initiatives to assist the state’s immigrant population upset Jacki Esposito of the New York Immigrant Coalition.

Following New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address, leaders in the Capital/Saratoga region are offering their thoughts on what they’d like to see in 2014.

The Governor’s State of the State speech focused on a variety of topics, from education, economic development, tourism, and infrastructure.

But it was the governor’s focus on reducing spending and reduction of property taxes that caught Schenectady and Saratoga County Republican Assemblyman James Tedisco’s ear.

Report Blames Pensions,Debts For Squeezing Municipal Budgets

15,000 municipal jobs have been eliminated in Massachusetts since 2007. The state’s cities and towns have cut the total workforce by 6 percent. In a new report released this morning, the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation says municipalities are in a financial squeeze because of rising pension costs and increased debt.   WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with taxpayer’s foundation president Michael Widmer.
