The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. NY Court Upholds Communities’ Right To Protect Residents From Fracking

New York State continues wait for final word on hydraulic fracturing, the controversial gas drilling method on hold since 2008.  Monday's Court of Appeals decision upheld communities’ right to use traditional local zoning laws to keep fracking out of their borders.

The New York Court of Appeals ruling came in two cases decided jointly:  one brought by an oil company and the other a dairy farm that wanted to lease its land, challenging the towns of Dryden and Middlefield’s decisions to ban the industrial activity there.

Insurance Giant Creates Investment Fund To Support Springfield Entrepreneurs

One of the oldest and largest businesses in western Massachusetts has launched an initiative to help small start-up companies.  MassMutual has announced the creation of the Springfield Venture Fund. Critics Express Concerns Over Funding Plan Approved For Tappan Zee Bridge Project

A coalition of environmental and advocacy organizations and Assembly members met via conference call on Thursday to express their dismay over the approval by the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation to use, for the first time, clean water funds for a transportation project. The critics say using the funds for the bridge project could have negative consequences for every community across the state.
