The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Albany Democrats have spoken. The primary is over, and City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan is well on her way to taking office as the capital city's first female chief executive... 

Albany Democrats have a new sense of momentum - going in a positive direction, if former city councilman and mayoral candidate Corey Ellis' concession speech is any indication. Pre-election polls had already given Kathy Sheehan a large advantage going into Tuesday's primary. Her victory address at the packed Albany Pump Station reflected the anticipation that something new is beginning.

Voters Kill Hard Rock Casino Project

Voters in West Springfield on Tuesday delivered a knockout punch to casino industry giant Hard Rock.   The vote to reject an $800 million dollar casino project leaves just two competitors standing for the lone casino license that will be issued in western Massachusetts.

By a lopsided margin of 55 to 45 percent, West Springfield voters turned down a development agreement that could have seen Hard Rock build a casino, hotel, and year-round concert venue on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition, home of the annual Big E agricultural fair.

NY: Primary Day At Last!

It's off to the polls for Albany Democrats today.

The Capital City's first new mayor in 20 years is expected to be all but decided today. With party enrollment heavy on the Democratic side, observers say whoever takes the primary is the presumptive winner in November. Recent polls show City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan running ahead of former Councilman Corey Ellis on the path to succeed two-decade incumbent Democrat Jerry Jennings.

Pete Seeger, Friends Perform Memorable Concert In Peekskill

Pete Seeger took to the stage of the Paramount Theatre in Peekskill Sunday. Seeger, Lorre Wyatt, Guy Davis, and friends played a benefit concert for WAMC. WAMC's Alan Chartock dedicated the concert to Seeger's wife Toshi, who died in July.
