WAMC's award-winning daily news magazine show brings the listener the latest in local, national and world news. Join Brian Shields each weekday for the very latest.

The work of the WAMC News Team is combined each day with news and features from WAMC's National Productions, the BBC, Great Lakes Radio, and Stardate. You can also get a regional weather forecast from Paul Caiano.

The listener also can hear commentaries offered by a range of commentators who span the political spectrum such as former New York Common Cause leader Paul Elisha, former Republican Comptroller candidate Herb London, Professor of International History and Politics Steven Leibo, as well as WAMC's own political observer Alan Chartock. Highlights from the WAMC Listener Comment Line are usually aired on Friday's edition of Midday Magazine.

Advocates And Opponents Pack Saratoga Casino Forum

A crowd of advocates and opponents packed into the Saratoga Springs City Center last night for a casino forum hosted by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce and Saratoga Convention and Tourism bureau.

An hour before The Saratoga Casino Forum began, people started streaming into in the City Center. Members of Destination Saratoga, the pro-casino group launched with money from the Saratoga Casino and Raceway, stepped out of buses waving signs and wearing buttons.

Meanwhile, volunteers with SAVE Saratoga, the anti-casino group, passed out hundreds of red T-shirts.

Paul Elisha: Guns In Society

One Year has now passed, since the shocking massacre of twenty children and six adults, in the unbelievable shooting at a Newtown, Connecticut school, by a single deranged young person, for no known motive or stimulus and we aren’t any closer to answers, that might explain this most horrible of inhumane acts, but everyone who promised informed or official responses , from our nation’s President, to its most respected and learned minds,  seem unable to compel reactions, to match their expressed horror.

Next In NYS: Legal Marijuana?

Opinions differ on the chances for passage of a bill that would legalize marijuana in New York State. It was introduced last Wednesday by state Sen. Liz Krueger of Manhattan, shown here in a gathering outside City Hall.

A bill that would legalize recreational marijuana in New York State was introduced last week. The measure would regulate the sale of pot and tax it, treating it similarly to alcohol.  Proponents are cautiously optimistic that the governor might see the plan in a favorable light.

Palmer Casino Supporters Urge Mohegan Sun To Pledge New Development
